“One of the best examples on engaging the community, was the work that came together around the deplorable bombing in East Beirut, on October 19, 2012. The car bomb detonated on a civilian street in Ashrafieh, destroying the homes of more than 240 families. It was 2 weeks before the Beirut international Marathon. 7 Marathon runners pledged their run to raise funds for these families. An amount of $268,000 was raised and donated to the NGO put in charge of rebuilding, after this catastrophe. One month later, everybody had a home to go back to.” MEK
